Hi everyone,
I hope you’re all well.
I just wanted to share with you a video of a speech that Clive Lewis MP (Labour) gave to the Commons on Tuesday in the debate on Ukraine.
It’s a long speech (near 14 minutes) and large parts of it are based on the piece that I published last week Building from Ukraine: From Solidarity to Systemic Change. Indeed, he references Rethinking Security and quotes quite lengthy sections of the article.
There’s also a shorter version on Twitter: https://twitter.com/labourlewis/status/1504414117804847108
And the transcript is also on Hansard.
Clive Lewis was Labour’s shadow defence secretary in 2016 as well as having several energy/climate roles under Corbyn. While he is certainly on the left of the party, he is one of only two military veterans in the parliamentary party, so retains considerable credibility speaking on security.
Thanks very much to Paul Rogers for helping to set this up. I think we’ll both be meeting with Clive soon to follow up on this.
Best wishes,
Richard
