We just stopped a tanker loaded with Russian fossil fuels from docking near London. If the government won’t say no to funding Putin’s war on Ukraine, then we’ll do it for them.

It’s been nearly three months since Russia invaded Ukraine. Since then, our television screens and social media feeds have been filled with horrific images of war. Putin’s former adviser has said that banning Russian fossil fuels could stop the war. [1] The government said they would block all Russian-owned ships from UK ports but these were empty words, and ships carrying Russian fossil fuels are still entering the UK. 2 [4]

That’s why brave activists have blocked a tanker of Russian oil right now – will you stand with them and send a clear message to Boris Johnson demanding the government stop importing Russian oil and gas, get off fossil fuels and switch to clean energy now?

Not on Twitter? Can you forward this email to 5 friends to help ramp up the pressure?

A study from April showed the UK has imported nearly two million barrels of Russian oil, worth an estimated £220 million, since the start of the war. And more has arrived since then. [5] The lives of ordinary people in Ukraine are being destroyed, but European countries including ours continue to fund this fossil-fuelled war.

Fossil fuels have led to, and will continue to lead to, wars across the world. They destroy the climate, bringing suffering to millions of people, and they are the root of energy crises. The UN’s latest report was clear that it is “moral and economic madness” to fund new fossil fuel projects.

But there’s a clear solution to protect our planet and say no to war. We need to invest in clean transport, energy efficiency and massively ramp up our ambition for clean, reliable renewable energy. And we need to stop buying and drilling for more fossil fuels. 6

Can you stand with brave activists who have taken action because the UK government isn’t? Tell Boris Johnson to act now.

We’re taking action today because the government isn’t. But Boris Johnson can still step up and end our dependence on climate-wrecking fossil fuels, tackle rising energy bills and lead us to a future free of war and climate destruction. Make sure he acts now.

Thanks for everything you do,
