Boris Johnson loses his own war of Number Ten

As one of the world’s politicians most enthusiastically banging the drums of war, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson helped forge the Western response to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Johnson took the US’s lead in sending heavy weapons to Ukraine, upping troops and spending, making numerous visits and phone calls, in the process winning some Ukrainian fans but fanning the flames of war.

Will the end of his tenure impact on this belligerent cacophony?

Johnson’s resignation at least opens up the potential for a change of approach and it’s up to the anti-war movement to make the case and mount the pressure.

Meanwhile, however, Johnson is still in Downing Street and is quite capable of further provocations.

We need to escalate our campaign for peace and against the West’s militaristic response to the Russian invasion.

NATO: A War Alliance – Online Briefing Launch

Russia says the war in Ukraine has barely begun, in its renewed threat that Kyiv should quickly accept Moscow’s terms or brace for the worst. The menacing ultimatum comes as Russia’s deadly war in Ukraine continues.

NATO powers are on the war path expanding and exacerbating the conflict. At last week’s summit, NATO agreed to the biggest overhaul of its strategic concept in history, bolstering the militarisation of Europe and tearing up prospects for peace.

Its multiple military adventures from the bombing of Serbia to the occupation of Afghanistan and the assault on Libya, underline the fact that NATO is a war alliance.

As part of our campaign we’ve produced a new briefing analysing the past, present and likely future of NATO. Join the online launch of the pamphlet with two of its contributors, Stop the War Officers Andrew Murray and Jenny Clegg next Tuesday, 12th July.
