Boris Johnson may be on the way out, but the front-runners in the Tory leadership contest will mark no difference in terms of foreign policy.
No matter who replaces him, they will continue to justify their commitment to NATO and their support for war and weapons to Ukraine. This will be paid for by increases in ‘defence’ spending.
Britain’s military escapades are increasing at a time when the Tories’ cost of living crisis is hammering families across the UK. We have to pressure the government to reduce military spending in favour of redirecting those essential funds to our public services.
We also have to keep campaigning for a reshaping of foreign policy priorities. Sadly, under Keir Starmer’s leadership there will be little alternative from Labour on these questions.
Fortunately, people across Britain recognise that we need an alternative foreign policy and an end to war. Hundreds of people visited our stall, signed our petition and bought our new pamphlet on NATO at the Durham Miners’ Gala last Saturday.
This is indicative of the fact that there is a huge section of the public that wants the radical change in direction to our foreign policy that Stop the War demands.
We at Stop the War work tirelessly to keep the organisation going. Our only source of income and political support comes from individual members and trade union affiliations.
One of the main ways you can help us to strengthen our campaigns is by becoming a member of Stop the War. Membership costs as little as £2.
Please consider becoming a member of Stop the War – you can help make a real difference.
