Hi everyone,
Phil Miller here, I’m Declassified UK’s chief reporter.
While many of us watch the tragic events in Ukraine, the legacy of Britain’s regime-change wars continue to wreck havoc across the Middle East and beyond.
In Iraq, Muqtada al-Sadr, whose Mahdi Army killed so many British troops in Basra post-invasion, has just announced his resignation from the top of Iraqi politics – a decision which has sparked deadly protests in Baghdad, where his supporters are demanding fresh elections. In Afghanistan, the Taliban have now been in power for the last year. In Libya, clashes between rival militias in Tripoli on Saturday saw 32 people killed.

Please try to take a look and share it with your friends.
Also new on our website in August was an op-ed by Anne Cadwallader, exposing Defence Secretary Ben Wallace and his worrying attitude towards the murder of unarmed teenager Peter McBride in 1992. This Sunday will be the 30th anniversary of McBride’s death at the hands of Wallace’s former colleagues in the Scots Guards. Wallace still refuses to accept multiple court rulings that the killing was murder, and not simply an “error”.
Another story to read is Matt Kennard’s latest investigation into a secretive network of power spanning from Turkey to Britain. The Tatlidil Forum connects Turkish autocrat Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with Prince Andrew and a whole host of British political elites.
Meanwhile I’ve continued my coverage of British army exercises in Kenya, unearthing more evidence about their use of controversial White Phosphorus weapons and the tragic circumstances surrounding the entirely
If you search on Twitter for #DCUKparliament you’ll see all these tweets. Practically every day, there is something to reveal – almost none is reported in the UK press. So we see this as a public service.
All regular donors also get our weekly DCUK Intel report, which I’ve been preparing for the past couple of months. Each week, John McEvoy combs through the goings on of British ministers and organisations, to make sure their actions are as known to you as possible.
Get DCUK IntelWe’ve got lots of great content planned for September, so keep an eye on our website and social media channels.
Thanks to all of you who have set up a subscription to Declassified so we can keep doing this high-quality investigative journalism.
Until next time,
