Don’t Trust Truss

Prime Minister Liz Truss is sticking with her campaign promise to increase military spending by 60 per cent by the end of the decade. To make this extra cash available she will cut public spending like the NHS at a time when it needs major surgery.

Citing the growing threat of Russia and China, Truss thinks raising defence spending to 3% of national income costing £157 billion is justified. It is never justified, not least amid the Cost of Living Crisis plunging millions of people onto the breadline.

That’s why we’re throwing our weight behind The People’s Assembly’s Autumn Offensive by protesting the Tory Party Conference in Birmingham on Sunday October 2nd and with an anti-war block on the National demonstration in London on Saturday 5th November.

 How Do We End The War?

While the Tory government has pumped billions of pounds of weapons into Ukraine during the most severe squeeze on living standards in living memory, Stop the War continue to call for an end to escalation and the start of negotiation.

The leader of the so-called opposition Keir Starmer, has consistently sided with the government’s support for the war and has publicly attacked Stop the War on several occasions. But if Labour wants to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, ignoring the war is no longer an option.

Join us in Liverpool to answer the question: how do we end the war in Ukraine?

 The World at War- A Trade Union Issue- POSTPONED

Following the death of the Queen last night, an emergency session of the TUC General Council was held this morning. It reads;

“The General Council sends our condolences to the King and the Royal Family on the death of the Queen, and recognises her many years of dedicated service to the country.

As a mark of respect, the General Council has decided that Congress should be postponed. It will be reconvened in the coming weeks.”

As a result our Stop the War fringe meeting will also have to be postponed until further notice.

Stop the Race to War! Back Stop the War’s 2022 Financial Appeal

The war in Ukraine has sent tremors across the globe. Since it began, the people of Ukraine have been paying a price for this war, as have millions in the UK too.

 The aim from the start was a decisive military victory against Russia. The west shelled out billions for arms shipments, and imposed sanctions intended to punish Russia for its aggression. What we see now is a huge economic crisis in Europe with millions suffering. The only way to stop the madness in Ukraine and beyond is through negotiated peace.

Last week we launched our 2022 appeal for £30,000 so we can intensify our calls for peace and sanity in a more and more dangerous world. Please give generously and support us as we campaign to stop the race to war.
