Drone Wars UK Annual Appeal

Posted: 1st October 2022

Last weekend, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace confirmed that Liz Truss’s
commitment to increase the military budget to 3% of GDP would mean more than
doubling the MoD’s annual spend to £100bn per year by the end of the decade.
At the same time, the government launched a new review of Defence and
Security policy to take account of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.  While it
is perhaps a little early to forecast specific outcomes, UK spending on
developing and deploying new military technology looks certain to increase.
This must be challenged.

Drone Wars UK is fundamentally opposed to the harm done in the name of
military security.  Our work is rooted in, and contributes to, a growing
understanding of sustainable human security.  Our vision is of a peaceful
and just world where governments prioritise investment in human and
environmental security rather than military technology.

As a reader of the Drone Wars blog you will be aware of our work to shine a
spotlight on, and challenge developments in, this area.  Our information and
analysis is used by parliamentarians, campaigners, journalists and
academics.  We pursue transparency through strategic use of Freedom of
Information tools, we educate and inform through publishing a variety of
data and accessible reports and briefings, and we challenge through engaging
in policy debates as well as through public protests.

However, like many small organisations, Drone Wars UK relies on public
donations to keep our work going.  We have the support of some charitable
trusts for our research work but we also need individual donations, in
particular for our campaigning work. As a small organisation, we can
guarantee that all donations received through this appeal will go directly
towards our research and campaigning work.

If you are able to support our work through making a donation, we would be
extremely grateful. Our bank account details are below or you can make a
donation using a debit card or PayPal via our website here:
