War in Ukraine / NATO

  • Kate Hudson has an opinion piece in Al Jazeera on how NATO and Russian war gaming is increasing the nuclear risk level.

  • That’s as the West accused Russia of planning a false flag ‘dirty bomb’ attack as a pretext for escalating its invasion of Ukraine. The Kremlin’s Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu warned NATO counterparts on Sunday, claiming Ukraine was planning to detonate a bomb with radioactive material in Southern Ukraine.

  • IAEA inspectors are to revist two sites linked to Russia’s “dirty bomb” plot claim. The UN nuclear watchdog said staff had regularly visited the unnamed sites in the past but will inspect again following a request from Kiev.

  • Meanwhile, Ukraine’s nuclear agency, Energoatom claimed Tuesday that Russia was carrying out secret construction work at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant – and not allowing either Ukrainian staff or IAEA monitors to see what they’re doing.

  • Peace News has an item on a suggested plan to have an Unarmed Civilian Protection team at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.

  • Beyond Nuclear looks at lobbying by the nuclear industry at the COP 26 summit in Scotland.

  • Pro-nuclear commentary in the Stroud Times from local business leader Ian Mean – following Gloucestershire’s failed bid to host a prototype nuclear fusion reactor.

  • New Civil Engineer covers nuclear industry calls for nuclear to be included in Net Zero targets.

  • Poland is inching closer to a decision on developing a fleet of six nuclear reactors – with firms from France, the US, and South Korea bidding for Warsaw’s business.
