* Nonviolent resistance for a peaceful and nuclear-free future

------------

November 2022

Dear friends,

Last month marked the 42nd anniversary of the Nuclear Resister… and in September we were excited to publish issue #200 of the newsletter, a huge milestone!

Please join us December 3 online via Zoom to celebrate! You can register here: https://nukeresister.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5e793916f1979bfc73458af19&id=8ef48b4608&e=3a35ade283 (https://nukeresister.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5e793916f1979bfc73458af19&id=7c54033722&e=3a35ade283)

Two hundred issues filled with stories of anti-nuclear and anti-war resistance around the world. Keeping track of who’s been arrested, who is in court and who is “Inside & Out” of jails and prisons. Telling the history of this movement through the acts and voices of the resistance. Chronicling hope.

Meeting 200 deadlines has involved a good deal of writing, editing and proofreading. We’ve spent many hours discussing tactics and typefaces, graphics and nonviolence, column inches, Oxford commas and prisoner support. Countless letters, phone calls and now emails, chats, tweets and Facebook messages to gather information about actions and find out what happened in court and behind bars. An impressive amount of all-nighters and intensely focused days, and the coffee, chocolate and all manner of support have helped keep us going.

To all of you who have written articles, sent updates, proofread, helped at a mailing party, been arrested at a peace or anti-nuclear action or supported those who have been, subscribed, donated, written to and provided support for activists in jail – thank you for being part of this accomplishment!

We can’t do it without you.

Honestly, fundraising has been challenging in the last couple of years. Please make a contribution now if you can! This is the only fund appeal letter you’ll receive from us in 2022.

Sixty years after the Cuban Missile Crisis, the world finds itself in another precarious pivot point in history. Irresponsible world leaders are not only tempting nuclear war in Europe, but are now also recruiting nuclear power plants into the battle in Ukraine.

So what gives us hope during these challenging times? People standing up, speaking out and acting for a peaceful and nuclear-free future! Like the people recently arrested during a week of resistance at an Australian arms expo, and at Creech drone base and the nuclear test site in Nevada. Like our friends and long-time nuclear resisters Susan Crane and John LaForge, getting ready to go to prison in Germany for their actions at Büchel Air Base, demanding removal of the U.S. nuclear weapons based there.

The Nuclear Resister is here, as it has been for 42 years, to chronicle anti-nuclear and anti-war actions and support people behind bars via the newsletter, website, E-bulletins, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram posts, and much more.

Thanks so much to all of you who recently sent a donation, and to those of you who are able to send a contribution now. Each and every amount, large or small, adds up and keeps this Chronicle of Hope afloat! We are grateful.

Peace,

Felice and Jack Cohen-Joppa
Coordinators

___________

One tremendous help in meeting last year’s budget was a bequest from Roger Franklin, a long time British activist and Nuclear Resister supporter who died two years ago. Our family has fond memories of staying with him in 1997 at Tickmorend House in Horsley, which he declared a nuclear free zone.

We are grateful for this gift and others that some have left for the Nuclear Resister upon their passing. We are also thankful for the people who have let us know that the Nuclear Resister is named as a beneficiary in their will. If you are able, we invite you to consider joining them. Simply name the Nuclear Resister as the beneficiary of a portion of your estate or of particular assets in your estate. Please contact us at if you have any questions.
