Japan to extend compensation for Fukushima 1 nuclear disaster

Tokyo, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) The Japanese Government informed that financial compensation for psychological damage to victims of the Fukushima 1 nuclear accident will be expanded.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) revised the compensation criteria developed in 2011 and added new eligible candidates. According to the agency, even in the areas of restricted residence and preparation for cancellation of evacuation orders. The community was destroyed and the basis of life changed completely. 

For this group of citizens, 2.5 million yen (18,887 dollars) per capita was introduced. 

The amount already established for the victims who had to leave their homes abruptly due to high radioactive contamination and live since 2011 as evacuees with no possibility to return was also increased by 300,000 yen (2,266 dollars). 

It was also defined that the balance indicated in the latest guidelines ‘is not an upper limit’, so the Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco), in charge of the Fukushima power plant, will have to respond with flexibility.
