Peace Talks Now: An Active Start to 2023

With war raging in Ukraine it’s a vital time for the anti-war movement to stand up and get active. The war is a disaster for the people of Ukraine and effectively pits two nuclear armed great powers against each other. It could escalate at any time and is causing economic chaos across the globe. Stop the War opposed the invasion and the war since it began with demonstrations, protests and activity across the country but it’s time to take it up a notch.

That begins with our Trade Union Conference next Saturday in London where we will bolster the connections between the anti-war and labour movements. It is a disgrace that the government is refusing to increase the pay of essential public sector workers whilst spending record sums on weapons and war. We want all trade unionists who stand for peace in one room one week from now making the call to cut war, not welfare! Make sure to register today as tickets are selling fast.

The conference is also an opportunity to build the ‘Peace Talks Now – Stop the War in Ukraine’ National Demonstration on 25th February. The demonstration will mark one year since the invasion and call for an end to the British government’s ongoing fueling of the conflict by sending endless military hardware to a war zone whilst making no attempt to bring the fighting to an end.

This is a National Demonstration which means we want all those who are able to to travel down to London, get on the streets and call for peace – it’s in everyone’s interest except the warmongers. So start spreading the word where you are amongst local activists, peace groups, trade unions, faith groups and anyone who wants a more peaceful future. Let’s make our demands heard.

People’s Assembly National Conference – Tomorrow!

As the cost-of-living crisis deepens, our anti-war agenda is central to the economic debate. We will be at the People’s Assembly National Conference tomorrow (Sat 14 Jan) making sure that hikes to military spending are on the agenda when it comes to discussions on poverty, strikes and solidarity. Join us there.
