Japanese activists gathered outside the Prime Minister’s office on January 19, 2023 to protest the decision to discharge contaminated water from the wrecked Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea. Many people are angry and disappointed that the Japanese government and Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCO), owner of the plant, have repeatedly broken their promises. TEPCO once claimed that it would not discharge the wastewater without the consent of local residents and fishery practitioners, but in fact it has already started preparations.
