Hello CND groups!

It definitely feels like we’re back into the swing of things by now! We already have quite a few events planned, for which we hope you can mobilise, and of course join us.

Planned protests

Next month will mark a year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. CND and Stop the War have called a national demonstration in central London on Saturday 25 February at midday to say no to war, and no to nuclear war. One year on, the situation is deadlocked and it is clear there can be no winners in this war, that is why we need to be on the streets to demand peace talks now, please share the information and promote to your supporters. Find out more.

Further into Spring, CND – alongside other peace groups in the XR Peace collective – will be supporting an Extinction Rebellion action in London. From April 21st we will be standing up for the planet and against nuclear weapons by joining in the protest outside the Houses of Parliament. The exact form of the action is to be announced, but expect traditional protest, creative action, workshops and vigils. Save the date in your diary and start planning to join us.

And finally, we have called our next protest at Lakenheath. Please start planning now to come along to say no to US nuclear weapons in Britain on Saturday, May 20th. It’s really important that we turn up in even larger numbers than before to make a strong statement. We hope that all CND groups will look into arranging transport to the base, subsidies for this are available from CND.

Group workshops

Many of you have joined our CND groups workshops over the past couple of years. These are a chance for us to all learn from each other. We’re planning on restarting these soon, so please let me know ([email protected]) what kind of topics you would find it useful for us to cover.

Beer mat campaign

Yorkshire CND recently ran a beer mat campaign in Leeds – spreading a thousand of them across bars in Leeds. Each had a QR code on them, which linked to the group’s website. This is a fantastic way of spreading your group’s message beyond the usual supporters, so if you would be interested in ordering some for your group, please contact [email protected],uk as soon as possible. Yorkshire CND have kindly offered to provide the artwork and assist with any questions if need be.

As you can see, there is plenty going on! Let me know if you have any questions or queries about anything mentioned here, or any aspect of CND’s current campaigns.

Very best wishes,

Sara Medi Jones
