War In Ukraine/NATO

  • Some letters to the LA Times warning against the escalation caused by more US military support to Ukraine.
  • A journalist who protested Russia’s invasion of Ukraine live on Russian TV recounts her escape from the country after repeatedly defying orders by the authorities to stay at home.
  • Norwegian intelligence claims Russia has deployed ships armed with nuclear weapons to the Baltic Sea for the first time in three decades.
  • US intelligence say the war in Ukraine is turning Iran into a global leader in producing cheap and lethal drones.
  • Andrew Murray writes in The Morning Star on the need to oppose NATO.

Iraq War

  • The actor Mark Rylance is campaigning for a statue to protester Brian Haw - who camped on Parliament Square for ten years calling for an end to the war in Iraq.
  • The Morning Star with an editorial on the anniversary of the Iraq War as well as a column from CND General Secretary Kate Hudson.

UK Nuclear Energy

  • UK Chancellor Jeremy Hunt plans to give “green” status to nuclear power - as part of plans to unlock billions of pounds in funding.
  • Hundreds of Sellafield cleaners have voted to strike over pay.

Nuclear Energy

  • The Guardian gives a 4 star review to Atomic Hope, a film which makes the case for nuclear power. Out in cinemas on 17 February.
  • Vox looks at how nuclear weapons can be turned into nuclear energy.

Fukushima

  • The Guardian reports on Japan’s insistence that its plan to release radioactive water from Fukushima is safe - while neighbouring countries and local fishers express concern against the plan.

Iran Nuclear Deal

  • Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton tells the Saudi-based Arab News that there is now an alternative to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal - the people of Iran. 
  • That’s as China’s Xi Jinping called for an early resolution to the Iran nuclear issue - adding that Beijing would safeguard Iran’s rights and interests.
