A MOMENTOUS day in the history of Barrow has been captured on camera as a new chapter was written in the town’s proud shipbuilding history. HMS Anson, an Astute class nuclear submarine built by BAE Systems in the town, left Barrow on Sunday on its maiden voyage as it took to the open water to travel to its Clyde base. Hundreds of Barrovians turned out to see the state-of-the-art vessel’s departure, and catch a glimpse of the extraordinary engineering that took place in Barrow to create it.
