War In Ukraine/NATO

  • The archbishop of Canterbury has said an end to the war in Ukraine cannot lead to Russia being treated like Germany after the first world war. Writing in The Telegraph, Justin Welby said: “Provided a just peace between Russia and Ukraine can be achieved, there must be a security structure that makes another war unlikely..Russia cannot end up like Germany after 1919; it must be able to recover and be secure without being allowed to repeat its aggression.”
  • China unveiled its peace plan for ending the war in Ukraine on the morning of its first anniversary, with a 12-point road map. While not offering specific steps, it did include strong language on the threat to use nuclear weapons: “Nuclear proliferation must be prevented and nuclear crisis avoided. China opposes the research, development and use of chemical and biological weapons by any country under any circumstances.”
  • The Guardian’s said Britain won’t be sending Typhoon jets to Ukraine. However, he said he would be willing to provide air cover to make up for any donations of older Soviet-era aircraft from NATO’s eastern members.
  • One big winner from the war in Ukraine is BAE Systems, who forecast higher earnings after receiving an unprecedented £37 billion in new orders in 2022.

  • That’s as the US and South Korea held table-top nuclear drills focusing on North Korea on Thursday.
  • South Korea is offering radiation tests to hundreds of North Korean defectors, following earlier reports to exposure from nuclear testing. Those being tested are from areas located near the main North Korean nuclear testing site at Punggye-ri.
