  • A Russian defence ministry journal says Moscow is developing a new type of military strategy using nuclear weapons to protect against possible US aggression, according to news agency RIA.

  • Six US Air Force officers who were in charge of caring for the infrastructure, fuel and logistics support for a North Dakota nuclear missile base were relieved of command due to a loss of confidence in their ability to carry out their responsibilities.

AUKUS

  • Australian opposition leader – and former defence minister - Peter Dutton said the country’s defence chiefs are losing interest in British nuclear-powered submarines in favour of US designs. Among the issues were Britain’s productioncapacity as well compatibility with US kit. The Labor government branded Dutton’s comments as irresponsible.

Iran Nuclear Deal

  • Responsible Statecraft on how the English-speaking media mentions Iran’s non-existent nuclear bomb more than the nuclear weapons of Israel or North Korea.
  • The IAEA is in discussions with Iran on the origin of uranium particles that were close to weapons grade, according to a report seen by Reuters.

Fukushima

  • Japan’s government has okayed a plan to extend its nuclear reactor lifespanbeyond 60 years.
