Join CND at Lakenheath airbase on 20 May

On Tuesday, CND groups gathered at the US Embassy in London to protest the return of US nuclear bombs to Lakenheath airbase in Suffolk. Organised by London Region CND, supporters and groups came from across the capital, Norwich, Cambridge, Kent, and as far away as Manchester. Speakers at the protest made clear that any return of these weapons of mass destruction to Britain will be met with persistent opposition.

Thank you to everyone who attended and sent in their support. A gallery of photographs from the action can be found on CND’s Lakenheath Protest

The UK government is not taking its climate commitments seriously. Last week it announced billions of pounds in additional military spending, a commitment to dirty nuclear power, and an expansion of military posturing in the Indo-Pacific under the AUKUS pact. On Tuesday, it was revealed that Britain was sending depleted uranium tank ammunition to Ukraine – despite their links to serious health and environmental issues like cancer and kidney failure.

As part of the XR Peace collective, CND is calling on supporters to I’ll Be There!

More details on our programme will be released shortly but will include teach-ins, workshops, and demonstrations. Keep up to date via our event page.
