Problems at either end of the nuclear cycle

These two stories make interesting and thought provoking reading.  The first concerns the situation around the extraction of the Uranium ore that provides the material needed for nuclear weapons.  The part this played in the history of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is little known.

The second story describes the situation at the other end of the nuclear cycle, where there is a need to store the hazardous waste for long periods.  The proposals to build a storage facility for waste from the whole of the US in New Mexico are not popular with the locals, quite understandably!
