  • AP on concerns among Belorussians of being dragged into Russia’s war in Ukraine.

North Korea

  • As South Korea’s Yoon Suk Yeol visits the US this week,  AP and The New York Timeson Joe Biden’s efforts to counter North Korean nuclear threats.

UK Nuclear Energy

  • The Environment Agency is  consultations on an application by the developers of Hinkley Point C to change its water activity permit. If approved, it would remove requirements such as installing acoustic fish deterrent systems from the plant’s cooling system.

Nuclear Energy

  • Canada’s Justin Trudeau is “very serious” about developing new nuclear technology, with a plan to roll out small modular reactors. However not everyone is happy with activists and cross-party MPs urging the federal government to drop such projects calling them a “dirty, dangerous distraction” from climate action.

  • DW looks at what to do with Germany’s legacy nuclear waste. 
  • Cumberland News & Star on the development of a new robot capable of handling radioactive waste and recently trialled at Sellafield.
  • A recent press release by Radiation Free Lakeland and Lakes Against Nuclear Dump on seismic blasting in the Irish Sea last August which resulted in marine life deaths.

  • Beyond Nuclear looks at the dogs and cats who have been living in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone since the 1986 disaster, and explores what it might tell us about the effects of living in a radioactive environment.

Fukushima

  • A seven-part drama series on the 2011 Fukushima disaster will premiere on BBC World Service from 15 May 2023.
