Just two weeks until CND's demonstration at Lakenheath!

CND protesters outside Lakenheath airbase Banner at the front reads

CND’s next national demonstration against the return of US nuclear weapons to Lakenheath airbase in Suffolk is just over two weeks away. We’ll be joined by European peace activists opposed to the deployment of the new B61-12 nuclear bombs at US/NATO bases in their own countries. We’ll also be holding a series of creative actions outside the base’s main gate!
  • Saturday, 20 May
  • Protest from 1-4pm
  • Lakenheath Main Gate, Brandon Road, transport options here
Writing on the growing nuclear escalation across Europe in this month’s issue of Campaign magazine, CND General Secretary Kate Hudson notes:

“Russia’s announcement that it will deploy nuclear weapons to Belarus is irresponsible in the extreme. It adds to a string of irresponsible moves by nuclear weapons states including the US sending so-called ‘tactical’ nuclear weapons to its bases across Europe. The fact that includes the Lakenheath airbase in Suffolk is something that we should all be very concerned about. We are steadily approaching the situation where a nuclear war will be fought in Europe.”

Commemorating 75 years of the Nakba

Next Saturday, 13 May, CND and other peace and civil society groups will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Nakba – or Catastrophe – when over 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly removed from over 500 villages and cities in historic Palestine.

Israel continues to pose a serious danger to the wider region by being its sole nuclear weapons state. CND pays tribute to Israeli whistle-blower and former nuclear technician Mordechai Vanunu – who remains under house arrest for exposing the truth about Israel’s nuclear weapons. The British government remains silent on Israel’s semi-clandestine nuclear status in the same way it remains silent about Palestinian human rights.

CND is calling on supporters to gather in London to mark the Nakba and to call for an end to Israel’s nuclear arsenal and human rights abuses.
  • Saturday, 13 May
  • Assemble at 12 noon, Portland Place (by the BBC), London
  • March followed by rally, details here
Stewards are also required to ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible. No prior experience necessary. We also need people to help carry the CND banner! If you are able to volunteer, please contact [email protected].

Organised by: Palestinian Forum in Britain, Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Stop the War Coalition, Friends of Al- Aqsa, Muslim Association of Britain, and CND.
