What would our country be like without protest?

What would our country be like without protest?

There would be no votes for women, no free press and certainly no weekends. Because all of these things and more were won by generations before us protesting for change.

Our country was built upon the right to protest, so we can’t just sit back and watch this government take it away. Peter, please can you ask your friends and family to sign our urgent petition calling on the government to scrap their new anti-protest laws?

The government’s new Public Order Act makes it harder for anyone who exercises their democratic right to protest. They’re a threat to the trade unions, environmental groups, human rights organisations and just about anyone else who believes in taking peaceful action to demand social change. [1]

The government has united civil society against these new laws, but to get them scrapped for good we need the public united against them too.

In the last week, you and 50,000 other people have signed our petition, but we’re going to need to make it even bigger if we want to show the government how out of touch they are on this. We need to build a movement that is powerful and hard for them to ignore and a great first step is to make our petition as big as possible.

So Peter, please can you help us to show the true strength of opposition to the government, by sharing the petition with your friends and family?

Thank you for taking action.
