War In Ukraine/NATO

  • The Wall Street Journal reports that the US will join Britain in sending depleted uranium ammunition to Ukraine. Russia has responded by suggesting it too could use DU weapons in Ukraine.
  • UN nuclear chief Rafael Grossi has delayed a scheduled visit to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant until the site is safer to travel to, a Ukrainian official has said.  
  • Alexander Lukashenko said Belarus has started taking delivery of Russian nuclear missiles. Reuters has an explainer on the deployment.
  • Ukraine will not be offered a timeline for NATO membership at its summit in July.
  • The FT looks at the potential replacement of Jens Stoltenberg at NATO chief, and the potential that he may yet again extend his term.

TPNW

  • Australian survivors and descendants of nuclear testing have visited Canberra to call on the Australian government to sign up to the TPNW.

AUKUS

  • Rolls Royce Submarines is going to expand its Raynesway site in Derby in anticipation for additional demand under the AUKUS pact. The company is to supply nuclear reactors for the pact’s attack submarines.

Nuclear Energy

  • Filmmaker Oliver Stone addresses London Tech Week, calling on governments to do more to expand nuclear power in order to prevent climate disaster.

Fukushima

  • South Korea has commenced a series of public briefings regarding seafood safety as a result of the Japanese plan to release radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the ocean.

Iran Nuclear Deal

  • Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday that Israel would not see itself bound by any agreement Washington might reach with Iran over its nuclear programme.
