High nuclear crimes don’t pay

A nefarious scheme that involved a $61 million payoff in part to Ohio politicians to smooth passage of legislation that would bail out FirstEnergy’s failing nuclear plants, has sent its lead conspirators to prison. Former OH House Speaker, Larry Householder, received a 20-year prison sentence last week for leading the scheme. An associate got 5 years and others are still to be sentenced. Their fate follows similar convictions of nuclear executives in South Carolina. READ MORE

Giving peace a chance

More than 300 people from 32 countries gathered in Vienna for the first time since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, concluding with a formal conference declaration demanding an end to the fighting. A broad and politically diverse coalition differed on many issues but reached consensus that war is a crime against humanity and there is no military solution to the current Russia-Ukraine crisis. READ MORE
