Threats by Russia and Ukraine that the other might blow up the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant wouldn’t be made if it was a wind farm and point up nuclear power’s inherent and terrible dangers, writes Linda Pentz Gunter. Explosive threats at Zaporizhzhia

While we may never know who or why any side in a war would want to blow up a nuclear plant, the current warnings about detonation plans at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Ukraine simply reinforce an incontrovertible truth: nuclear power presents an unacceptable risk. Our leaders need to wake up to the reality that pushing continued and expanded use of nuclear power places us in extreme danger of a catastrophic outcome in perpetuity. Keep Palisades shut

No one complained when the 52-year-old decrepit Palisades reactor in Michigan was permanently closed in 2022. But suddenly that’s changed as new owner, decommissioning company Holtec, makes a bid for a $300 million state subsidy and additional federal support to reopen and operate the plant. Holtec just scored an easy $150 million from the Michigan legislature. Now it’s time for the governor to ensure that Palisades stays closed and ratepayers aren’t gouged. READ MORE
