Don’t let the lessons of 6th and 9th August 1945 be forgotten. Please donate to CND today.

In early August, 78 years ago, atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagaski, killing hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children.

I am writing to you today to ask if you can make a donation to CND in memory of those lost in the 1945 nuclear attacks. We need to raise £10,000 for our campaigning in the coming months – we have big plans for the autumn, but they won’t be possible without your help.

Later this year, we plan to launch a major new report on the the true cost of replacing and upgrading the UK’s nuclear weapons system, Trident. This is vitally important, in light of the UK government’s announcement two years ago that the ceiling on its nuclear arsenal has been increased by a massive 40%.

This report will lay bare just how much will have to be spent to pay for our government’s new nuclear arms race – and how much could instead be spent on schools, hospitals, youth projects, libraries, universities, public transport, social housing. On anything but nuclear weapons.

With your help, we hope to have this report ready in time for the upcoming party conference season, to promote to MPs and party activists – to make it clear to them just what the true cost of these terrible weapons is. The economic cost, but also the human cost, as Hiroshima and Nagasaki remind us all too clearly.

We cannot afford to forget what is meant by nuclear weapons. We cannot be soothed by sanitised talk of nuclear ‘deterrents’.

This is where you come in.

Please donate today, so together we can continue to campaign for nuclear disarmament and ensure the lessons of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are not forgotten.

Please give whatever you can. We are so grateful for every donation, however large or small.

In peace,

Kate Hudson

General Secretary
