War In Ukraine/NATO

• The Telegraph: A former Russian general has called for a tactical nuclear strike in southern Ukraine after Kyiv’s forces were said to be gaining a foothold near some of Moscow’s weakest defences in the area. Pro-Kremlin MP Andrey Gurulev, 55, a retired lieutenant-general, urged Russian military leaders to target the Zaporizhzhia region village of Robotyne recently recaptured by Kyiv. “The village of Rabotino is an ideal place for the use of tactical nuclear weapons,” Mr Gurulev said.

• Nuclear Free Local Authorities have a new briefing paper on the attitudes of military and scientific authorities towards aboriginal communities regarding their safety and rights during nuclear testing.
• Associated Press: An alarming rise in global distrust and division coupled with efforts by countries to improve the accuracy and destructive power of nuclear weapons is “a recipe for annihilation,” the United Nations chief warned Tuesday.

AUKUS

• Australia and other countries in the AUKUS security pact should ask Japan and South Korea to join them to develop advance defence technology, according to the UK’s foreign affairs select committee.
