Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida had Fukushima fish sashimi at a lunch meeting, in an apparent effort to dispel safety concerns following the controversial release of treated radioactive wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear plant. Other ministers from his Cabinet also joined in for the meal where they were served flounder, sea bass and octopus, in a show of support for the local fishermen in Fukushima. US Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel has slammed China’s response to the Fukushima water release, calling it “hypocritical”.
