‘If people really knew the truth, the war would stop tomorrow.’ So said British Prime Minister David Lloyd George to the editor of the Guardian during the First World War.
Chris Nineham’s new pamphlet about the Ukraine war shows how western governments are once again working hard to deceive their populations about the nature of the war and the reasons they are backing it. They have managed to create a suffocating pro-war consensus in the mainstream media and politics, making even raising questions about the war taboo.
This pamphlet places this establishment campaign in the context of a long history of war propaganda. By examining the build up to the conflict in Ukraine and comparing internal documents with public statements Nineham exposes the lies and deceit being used to sell to the public the biggest military mobilisation since the Cold War.
