- In advance of a National Day of Action (23 September) called by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament to protest against the return of US nuclear weapons to Britain, the Chair of the Nuclear Free Local Authorities has written to the Foreign and Defence Secretaries calling on them to refuse the United States authorities permission to base B61-12 guided nuclear bombs at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk.

Two more countries have taken action under the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), bringing the tally of signatories to 93 – close to half of all states in the world – and States Parties to 69. The foreign minister of the Bahamasinked the landmark accord, while Sri Lanka’s minister acceded to the treaty at a ceremony in New York on Tuesday 19 September during the annual United Nations leaders’ week.
- That’s as Fumio Kishida told the UN General Assembly on Tuesday that Japan will work together with other countries and the UN to facilitate discussions between nuclear and non-nuclear weapon states.
