Plans have been revealed to install U.S. nuclear bombs at RAF Lakenheath. These will be U.S. weapons, controlled by the U.S., delivered by U.S. military personnel. There has been no democratic discussion of this decision and the designation RAF Lakenheath conceals the true nature of the deployment. The presence of two squadrons of F-35A stealth fighter bombers, equipped with first strike nuclear weapons, makes RAF Lakenheath a prime target for any would be aggressor contemplating military engagement with the U.S.
Members of Salisbury CND had numerous conversations with the public, spreading information about what was going on. Large numbers of those we spoke to signed a petition condemning the return of U.S. nuclear weapons to Lakenheath and opposing this extremely dangerous and destabilising development.
