How our solar future got nuked
A Truman presidential commission said the US could lead the world in solar energy and that nuclear had limited utility. But there was an elephant in the room - the nuclear weapons lobby. So when President Eisenhower entered the White House, he trashed the solar plans in favor of nuclear power. Had the US led the world in a rapid expansion of truly peaceful solar energy, other countries might have followed and we likely could have prevented climate change altogether. But the nuclear (and oil) lobbies held sway. MORE
