The King’s Speech will be tabled in Parliament next week and two amendments seek to include a call for an immediate ceasefire to stop the killing of civilians in Israel and Gaza.
One amendment proposed by the SNP calls on the UK government to “join with the international community in urgently pressing all parties to agree to an immediate ceasefire.” Another cross-party motion proposed by Labour MP Zarah Sultana also seeks an immediate ceasefire.
76 percent of the British public support a ceasefire but the UK government is failing to act despite growing calls to do so. We are asking our supporters to urgently lobby their MP, asking them to give their support to both motions.
You can write to your MP using the lobby tool here. You can read the text of both amendments here.
Thank you to everyone who also wrote to their MP about an earlier motion calling for a ceasefire, which so far has the backing of 96 MPs. This motion has been resubmitted due to the new Parliamentary term and is now called Early Day Motion 1. If you haven’t already contacted your MP about EDM 1, you can do so here.
