We Will Continue Marching for a Just & Lasting Peace
While the 4-day truce in Gaza to allow for the release of hostages and aid agencies into the strip may alleviate some of the worst and most immediate suffering it is neither a cessation nor a pause.
It is certainly not a ceasefire, despite its description as such by much of the media.
Lindsey German, Stop the War convenor said: “After 46 days of relentless bombing and ground attacks, a 4-day respite, whenever it starts, in the bombing of Gaza will not end the killing and the suffering of innocent civilians. It will not end Israel’s slaughter of the Palestinian people. It is clear that the ethnic cleansing will continue.
The Israeli prime minister’s office statement that the ‘lull’ in military operations will be extended by a day for every 10 more hostages only serves to underline that point. Without an immediate and permanent ceasefire and a commitment by all sides to a just and lasting peace, our movement will continue marching and demonstrating for those very things.”
We urge the hundreds of thousands of people who have turned out over the last few weeks for the national Palestine marches to join us again on the streets this Saturday. This is not a ceasefire.
Tonight! Online Public Meeting: Trade Unionists for Palestine
Hundreds of workers joined Stop the War and CND’s Workplace Day of Action for Palestine on Wednesday with walkouts, protests, photo-ops and teach-ins taking place across the UK.
Over 40 different workplaces were involved but as the horror in Gaza escalates, we must ensure that this is merely a first small step in coordinated workplace activity calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, an end to Israel’s oppression and for the right of the Palestinian people to live in freedom with justice and equality.
We’re calling another Workplace Day of Action on the UN’s International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on Wednesday 29th November. Start planning your action now.
Join us this evening (Weds 22 Nov) at 6:30pm for the next StWC Trade Union Network meeting – Trade Unionists for Palestine – to discuss how we continue to build the movement within trade unions and plan for the Day of Action.
