Dear Friends,

This time last year the nuclear dump boss’s coal mine was approved by government. The coal mine boss is the advisor on nuclear waste dump plans including the seismic blasting and boreholes to test the geology for a nuclear dump. The coal mine boss has already drilled boreholes in the already massively mined out Whitehaven area to test the hydrology for his coal mine (and nuclear dump next door) – rather like jumping up and down on a rotten roof to test for safety!   Around the day the coal mine was approved Whitehaven harbour turned red with pollution from old mines. This pollution has been pouring into the harbour for a full year now with no end in sight.  Would this be allowed to continue in the Home Counties?

I will be painting at the harbour on the 7th June and invite other artists/non artists to join in. The artworks will be photographed and sent to the Coal Authority who are looking at renewing the nuclear dump boss’s now lapsed licences to drill for coal.  There should be no further deep sub-sea mining in this area whether for coal or for a much larger and hotter deep sub-sea nuclear dump- the evidence of why this should be halted is there to see in the ongoing pollution pouring from the culvert in Whitehaven harbour.

We will meet adjacent to the Culvert on Queen’s Dock Whitehaven on December 7th from 12 til 1pm – art materials will be available.

Onwards and upwards!

Marianne
