Liberty's opinion on ‘emergency bill’ to force through government policy of removing asylum seekers to Rwanda

Posted: 7th December 2023

Yesterday, the Government published its so-called ‘emergency bill’ to force through its cruel policy of removing asylum seekers to Rwanda.

They are trying to divide us in an attempt to weaken everyone’s human rights and prevent us from challenging their actions.

We will not be divided.

This Bill strips human rights away from people who come to the UK in the hope of safety for them and their loved ones. Either everyone has human rights, or no one does. If the Government can snatch them away from any section of society, none of us has rights – just privileges that can be taken away by people in power whenever they see fit.

The Government is once again trying to change the rules so only they can win. In doing so, they are turning their backs on international law and undermining the basic principle that everyone has human rights by virtue of being human.

Liberty will fight this Bill with everything we have. Together we defeated previous Government attempts to rip up our rights. Just like the Rights Removal Bill, we can beat this too. We’ll be in touch soon on how you can help.

For now, if you are able, join Liberty to stand against this attack on our rights and our democracy.
