Spiralling nuclear costs make the MOD’s equipment plan unsustainable

The MOD decided not to publish its annual equipment plan in 2023, saying they still needed to work through the implications of the Integrated Review Refresh. However, a National Audit Office analysis of MOD figures shows there is a £16.4bn black hole in the plan, with nuclear costs being a major driver. Read more

Faulty depth gauge causes unplanned dive on Vanguard submarine

A faulty depth gauge caused a Vanguard submarine to go into an unplanned dive. The submarine was reportedly approaching maximum safe depth when the alarm was raised by engineers contacting the control room. Read more

AUKUS and SMR hopes prompt Rolls Royce expansion plans

In anticipation of substantial growth in their reactor production business, Rolls Royce are planning to nearly double the size of their Raynesway site and to build a ‘nuclear centre of excellence and innovation’ on a separate site. Read more
