Dear CND Group, I have launched this petition on the UK parliamentary website, and hope you will be willing to sign and share it with your members. I’ve showed it to Kate Hudson who approves of it.
We have prepared for an illusory threat while ignoring a real one and are reaping the consequences now. But perhaps this is also a moment when people will at last face up to the need for different choices. With your help, we can put this high on the agenda.
* The 2017 official UK National Risk Register identified Emerging Infectious Diseases as an increasing high-risk threat. Nuclear attack remained in the lowest category of risk. Yet nothing was done to prepare against a pandemic.
* The Trident renewal programme goes ahead at huge cost, the AWE at Aldermaston continues to work on Britain’s nuclear weapons even now, and there is a British nuclear sub constantly out at sea.
* We need hundreds of thousands to tell Parliament that these policies are insane and that the priorities are upside down.

Halt Trident renewal and spend the funds on fighting the coronavirus.
Dear Friend, To update you on progress so far:
We have nearly reached 2,500 signatures, with many thanks to those who have already signed and shared.
— The target is 10,000, when the government has to respond, so there is still quite some way to go.
— And the latest figures for Britain’s nuclear programme underline the urgency.
— The annual cost is estimated in the ICAN report at £7.2 billion (the government never publishes figures).
— But we also learnt this year of a new programme to replace the Trident warheads — extra cost unknown.
— And the “cutting-edge” scientists at Aldermaston (number large but also unknown) continue to maintain and improve the existing warheads.
