Candle Light Vigil in Hiroshima

Posted: 23rd January 2024

Salisbury CND members and others will be very aware of the friendly links between Salisbury and Hiroshima.  We share our commitment to the abolition of nuclear weapons.
We have been so moved by being able to float lanterns from Hiroshima with our own when we organise our candle float to remember the victims of the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
It is wonderful to see that our own candle light ceasefire vigils are but a part of a world wide movement promoting this message.  We received the photo below from Hiroshima today.  Hideko Okamoto, our contact in Hiroshima, says:

Last night I joined Hanwa which aims to abolish nuclear weapons.
We made letters with candles that read, FREE PALESTINE! NO NUKE, NO WAR.
And observed a silent moment to mourn all the victims of the A-bombing, victims of Gaza and Israel, and victims of Ukraine, all victims of wars.
