The Government just announced shocking new laws designed to stop people from speaking up for what they believe in.

They want to give police powers to ban face coverings at specific protests – and arrest, fine, and even imprison people who don’t comply.1

History shows that when we come together and make ourselves heard, we change things for the better. And many people only feel comfortable at public protests wearing a face mask for their health.

This new plan to ban them is clear intimidation. Just like other recent anti-protest measures, it’s designed to silence us, protect the powerful, and prevent meaningful change.

We will not be silenced. Please sign our petition telling the Government to scrap their dangerous anti-protest laws.

SIGN THE PETITION

We all have the right to make our voices heard on issues that matter to us, but this Government has continually made it harder for us to do that. This is just the latest in a long line of attacks on the right to protest which have included criminalising noisy protests, demonstrations near Parliament, and the age-old tactic of ‘locking on’.

Together, Liberty and our supporters are fighting back.

This month, we’re taking the Government to court over some of its anti-protest laws. Last summer, after Parliament rejected a proposal to give police almost unlimited powers to shut down protests, former Home Secretary Suella Braverman simply wrote it into law anyway. She had no power to do this. We’re doing all we can to get these regulations scrapped.

We’ll keep fighting to defend protest rights. But we need your help.

If you haven’t already done so, please sign our petition to scrap anti-protest laws.
