Israel’s genocidal assault on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip has so far killed over 35,000 people, including more than 14,500 children. Israel is now threatening a full-scale military offensive against 1.5 million Palestinians trapped in Rafah, having already ensured there is nowhere safe left for them to go.Our national demonstration this Saturday 18 May will be our fourteenth march for Palestine in London since October. Will you join us?
Israel’s western-backed genocide did not emerge out of nowhere in October. From the beginning of the extraordinary mobilisations we have led to respond to Israel’s genocide, we have continued to assert the truth that Israel’s violence is built on the foundations of 76 years of settler colonialism, military occupation, and the imposition upon all Palestinians of a system of apartheid.
This week marks the commemoration of the 1947/8 Nakba which saw the ethnic cleansing of 750,000 Palestinian people from their homeland, and the destruction of over 500 cities, towns, and villages. This violence has never ended. The Nakba is ongoing with the current genocide its most extreme and brutal episode.
This week we will be holding a series of events and actions to mark the Nakba, and we will be contacting you about them each day as we build towards the National March on Saturday. That march will be led by a cohort of British Palestinians holding keys aloft to signify the enduring Palestinian promise of return.
On Thursday 16 May, we are holding a special online event with speakers from historic Palestine and across the Palestinian diaspora. Our role as a solidarity campaign is to send a message to Palestinian people that they do not stand alone, and to platform Palestinian voices. The event is part of our Solidarity Sessions, created with our Palestinian partner organisation, Rabet by PIPD, featuring Palestinian activists and movement leaders speaking directly to us here in Britain to help inform and deepen our solidarity work.
Speakers will reflect through personal experiences, poetry, and stories on what the ongoing Nakba means to them and their families. You won’t want to miss what will be a powerful and moving session – so save the date in your diaries, and click below to watch on Thursday.
The struggle is long but the resilience of the Palestinian people continues to inspire us. From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.
In solidarity,
Celie
