First Global Week of Action for Peace and Climate Justice

Posted: 27th June 2024

I wanted to share an initiative we’ve been working on as part of the Arms, Militarism and Climate Justice Working Group: the first global Week of Action for Peace and Climate Justice, taking place 21-28 Sep 2024.

The week is aimed at building connections between peace and climate justice movements, raising awareness of the links between militarism and climate breakdown, and building a stronger basis for collective action and policymaking for a peaceful, just and sustainable world (both at COP29 and beyond).

There will be some centrally-organised events (including an international online rally) and suggested ways of taking action, but we are also inviting groups/networks interested in peace and climate justice to use the week as an opportunity to run their own events/campaigns and highlight their own work on the linkages. The theme of this first week of action is divest from war – invest in climate justice, but participating groups/networks are welcome to focus on whatever linkages between peace and climate justice are most relevant to them.

Please do share this with your contacts, and let me know if you have any questions/feedback. We have a toolkit for action and some mobilising calls in the pipeline – the website will be updated when we have more information and we’re hoping to get a newsletter up and running soon.

In friendship
