Nine months in and Israel’s genocide in Gaza is accelerating. Six UN-run schools, serving as shelters for displaced Palestinians, have been struck by Israeli attacks in the past ten days and a Lancet study has estimated that the true overall death toll may be as high as 180,000. Despite a change of government, the British state is still supporting these war crimes taking place on a daily basis.
Today’s announcement that the UK is restoring funding to UNRWA is long overdue but restoring aid is the bare minimum this new government could do. As Israel continues to bomb schools and hospitals Starmer and Lammy must follow up this decision by immediately suspending all arms sales to the genocidal, apartheid state.
It falls to our movement to step up the pressure and do all we can to force their hand. Yesterday, thousands of Palestine activists held hands and surrounded parliament on its first day back. A huge turnout demanded an end to the genocide and an end to the arming of Israel. It was proof that this movement is going nowhere and will continue to be a thorn in the side of any government that aids and abets genocide.
On Saturday 3rd August we’ll be marching through the heart of London from Park Lane to Whitehall to tell Starmer and the Labour government: stop arming Israel, end the genocide!
