NIS Briefing on US-UK Mutual Defence Agreement

NIS has published a detailed briefing clarifying the US-UK Mutual Defence Agreement (MDA), which is now available to download. The MDA is the treaty which governs the nuclear dimension of the US-UK ‘special relationship’ and is due to be renewed before the end of 2024.The briefing reveals that 955 non-nuclear parts of nuclear weapons were transferred from the US to the UK under the treaty in the years 2020-2023. It also includes current and past subject areas for cooperative working between the two states, an annotated text of the MDA, and extensive background on the history and functioning of the treaty.The briefing can be downloaded here. Order hard copies here
