Starmer Must End Support for Out of Control Israel

The danger of a Middle East war was brought into sharp relief this week. Israel’s attacks on Lebanon and Iran risks setting the entire Middle East ablaze and have shown the world the contempt Israel has for international law.

Israel has failed to heed calls for restraint and has blatantly violated international law. The killing of Ismail Haniyeh, a key figure in the ceasefire negotiations, highlight Israel’s intension to continue its genocidal assault on Gaza. It is clear Netanyahu will not agree to a ceasefire unless forced to do so.

The strikes on Lebanon and Iran have violated sovereign territory, and resulted in deaths and casualties of civilians, including children. The attacks have exposed the fact that without an end to Israel’s genocide, the dismantlement of its regime of settler-colonialism, military occupation and apartheid, and freedom and return for the Palestinian people, there will be no peace in the Middle East.

Stop the War, along with our partner organisations, released a joint statement about the danger of escalation, pointing out that rather than “taking concrete steps to hold Israel to account, the UK government has chosen to delay making a decision on whether to suspend arms sales to Israel. This decision is grotesque – how many more Palestinians must be killed before David Lammy decides to stop arming their oppressors?”

Tomorrow (Saturday 3 August) we will march again to demand the government adheres to its responsibilities under international law and ceases aiding and abetting Israel’s grave war crimes, and we have added a new slogan to Saturday’s 17 national march for Palestine: No Middle East War.

We march to reassert the fundamental truth – there will be no peace in the Middle East until there is justice for the Palestinians and Palestine is free.

It is the job of everyone who opposes a wider war in the region to escalate our global struggle against the genocide in Gaza and Israel’s spiralling aggression.

Join us tomorrow (3rd August) when we will be marching through the heart of London from Park Lane to Downing Street to tell Starmer and the Labour government: stop arming Israel, end the genocide, no Middle East War! Be there.

Please use Marble Arch or Bond Street tube to assemble on Park Lane. Assemble at midday.

We need extra stewards for tomorrow’s demonstration. Are you available to help? If so let us know via the button below…
