This week, as part of ICAN’s Week of Action – No Money for Nuclear Weapons – Medact’s Nuclear Weapons Group is excited to announce the launch of a new priority campaign: Don’t Bank on The Bomb (DBOTB) UK!
Building on work from organisations like ICAN and PAX, and campaigning work from DBOTB Scotland – we’ll be growing a national network of campaigners and calling on our banks and financial institutions to divest from nuclear weapons manufacturers. You can now download our new campaign leaflet, a simple flyer for you to read and share the campaign with anyone interested in taking action with us!
Every year, our government spends billions of pounds on nuclear weapons – contracting private companies to maintain and develop the most destructive weapons imaginable. As a movement committed to the health of people and planet, and achieving true human security, we’re continuing our work towards the total abolition of nuclear weapons – and divestment campaigning is one powerful way we can take action!
The best way to get involved with DBOTB UK is to join our very first network meeting on Tuesday 26th November, 6.30–8pm! Come along to meet other campaigners, and discuss ways we can kick off our collective campaigning work.
We’re also recruiting a part-time Project Coordinator to help support the campaign in its first 6 months! You can find out more about the role and how to apply here.
Together, we can use our collective power and ensure our banks and financial institutions no longer invest in companies profiteering from nuclear weapons. We can apply huge amounts of pressure on the nuclear weapons industry in this way, and make the call for nuclear disarmament ring louder than ever.
In solidarity,
Medact Nuclear Weapons Group
