XR Peace on pause

Dear TPers
As TP members and friends were essential participants in the XR Peace activity during the October Rebellion last year you may have been waiting to hear what we have planned for the upcoming Rebellion.
XR Peace is currently pausing as we don’t have the capacity to mobilise and organise as a group to take part in nonviolent direct action during the September Rebellion in Cardiff, Manchester and London.

After a number of conversations we have come to the conclusion that we are exhausted and just can’t continue to put the time and energy into organising XR Peace that we did previously and want to be honest with all of you about that.
We think XR Peace has achieved a lot in raising the links between militarism and the climate and ecological crisis but in deciding where we go from here we need to be realistic about how much time we or anyone else can give to organising good NVDA which is at the core of how we apply pressure to get our demands met.
Some of how we and others feel may be due to the lockdown and other covid issues – we may not be able to know that until this pandemic is over.
Certainly the difficulty in keeping up with and understanding how XR works both the endless new IT stuff we have had to learn to use and our attempts to get involved in XR decision making/strategising through XR Movement of Movements and XR Connecting Communities etc has worn us down.
So during the September Rebellion some organisations in the XR Peace Council are hoping to organise an information stall in London (possibly in Parliament Square) making the links between militarism and the Climate and Ecological Crisis. There might also be small self sufficient affinity group actions under the XR Peace name.
We will also share XR digital campaigning ideas as we receive them.
We are proposing to “pause” XR Peace rather than close it down so that if things change and people want to organise mass action again then we don’t have to start from scratch and we don’t loose the good information we have assembled so far. Some of the XR Peace organising group will stay involved in XR in other ways like Margery in Wellbeing and Roz in arrestee support and those connected to local XR groups will continue to do that as those links are important.
Below is the latest information from Extinction Rebellion for those that feel that taking action on the streets is right for them at this time.
If any groups or individuals would like to get together to form a self sufficient XR Peace affinity group let me know and I will put you in touch with each other.
Any outstanding court cases from the October Rebellion are currently being adjourned and we are continuing to support people as they wait to hear what will happen.

Our September Rebellion draws nearer every day – here’s what you need to know to be ready to rebel safely and in a (hopefully) organised fashion.

Everywhere, rebels are hatching action plans, printing banners and building props. Local groups will kick off the Rebellion with action all over the UK in a long civilly disobedient weekend from 28-31 August. It’s not too late to join your local group and plan an action!
On 1 September, we’ll bring the action to Cardiff, Manchester and London. We are demanding that Parliament sets up a National Citizens Assembly and that it debates the a 3-minute animation about it and here’s an inspiring article on how the CEE bill could lead to a revolution of the imagination!)
