Major 14-hour fire in Barrow submarine assembly hall

A fire which started in the early hours of 30th October at the BAE Systems site burned for 14 hours. Seven workers were taken to hospital and later released.  Read more.

Did US submarines support the UK’s latest nuclear-armed patrol?

None of the UK’s SSNs were at sea for a three month period up to early October, leading to speculation that US submarines were used to check the area for enemy submarines when the recent Vanguard patrol began. David Cullen examines the evidence. Read more.

UK, France and Russia isolated in opposing UN nuclear war study

The UK was one of only three states opposing a UN General Assembly resolution to set up a scientific panel looking at the effects of nuclear war. Lobby efforts for a NATO position opposing the resolution failed. Read more.
