Stop the War Coalition

Sunday saw a mass meeting of the anti-war movement in London. There was a fantastic turnout at the anti-war convention with 400 in attendance. The mood was positive, with activists clearly wanting to build on this past years’ activities as we head into ever more unpredictable waters.

We heard from an excellent array of speakers and discussed a wide range of issues – from the wars raging abroad and the dangers of escalation both in the Middle East and the Asia Pacific, to the growth of Islamophobia at home. The recent attacks on our our movement, our civil liberties and the right to protest were also discussed along with the role the media plays in providing cover for the warmongers.

The convention concluded that at this dangerous moment in history we must do all we can to strengthen the anti-war movement, building on the progress made over the last year. There was demand to hold more events like the convention around the country and increase our activities alongside growing our membership base and local groups.

In order to meet the major tasks ahead we must make our movement bigger and stronger. To do so we need to boost our finances and for this your help is vital.

We have set a target of £60,000 for our winter appeal, please give generously today.
