No to War in Ukraine

Posted: 20th November 2024

Today US ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) missiles were shot down by Russia over its Bryansk region. This first step in the escalation of US involvement in the Ukraine war has coincided with Russia lowering its threshold of the use of nuclear weapons.

The decision by the Biden administration to permit Ukraine to use US made long-range missiles to strike against Russian and North Korean forces in the Kursk region (already breached by today’s strike) is a major escalation and will further draw NATO and the US into direct conflict with Russia. This move is intended to send a clear message to Moscow and North Korea that Western support for Ukraine remains unwavering and sets a dangerous precedent for future wars.

Stop the War has been emphasising from the beginning that expanding the war into Russian territory with US and NATO weapons risks crossing a line that could escalate the conflict and provoke catastrophic nuclear consequences. Despite the volatility of the situation, Keir Starmer is likely to allow Ukraine to use British Storm Shadow missiles in Russia.

Hundreds of thousands have been killed, the majority military on both sides, and millions have become refugees. We know that only peace negotiations will bring this horror to an end. Stop the War has and will continue to emphasise that the only way forward is diplomacy and de-escalation. You can help us build a more combative anti-war movement by joining as a member.
